Our Facilities

Castlebar school has specialist facilities designed to meet the needs of our pupils. In 2015 and 2018 extensive refurbishment works were carried out to extend the school, remodel classrooms and provide additional facilities to enhance the learning and development of our pupils.

Each classroom has an interactive white board with connection to the internet and school network. Pupils have access to a wide range of ICT resources including touch screen PCs, laptops/tablets and cause and effect toys. Classrooms are bright and airy and are well resourced to meet the educational and sensory needs of pupils. There is also a well-stocked school library.

Castlebar has both indoor and outdoor ‘classrooms’; as well as both a sensory and a science garden. The science garden contains a pond that is used to study and to develop an interest in nature.

There are dedicated rooms for art, music, cooking and science and we have 2 sensory rooms and a rebound therapy room used to support the various therapies offered in school.

Sports facilities include three halls, a multi-use games area (football and basketball), cycle tracks and a beautiful swimming pool. We also have fabulous outside play spaces including a log trail area and age appropriate play towers (one for upper and one for lower school).

The school has a school minibus which is used for trips out to places of interest and is used to attend local sporting events (including swimming at Gurnell Leisure Centre for the older children).
