At Castlebar, pupils are at the centre of the curriculum, and therefore its design and content aim to maximise the individual’s learning potential. We ensure that pupils’ priority needs are the starting point for their learning journey, which we deliver through personalised plans, interventions and evidence based approaches.
The curriculum is all the planned activities that we organise in order to promote Communication, Independence and Interaction. Curriculum activities and therapy programmes engage, enable, empower and equip the pupils for life.
The school has one curriculum and two assessment pathways. Pupils are assessed within the different Assessment pathways and may move from one pathway to another depending on changing needs over time. Curriculum maps ensure a progression of learning for pupils from early years to year 6. This enables pupils to build on their knowledge and skills throughout their time at Castlebar.
