Communication is a top priority and the school is committed to a total communication environment. All teaching staff are trained in Makaton and PECS symbols are used creatively to develop communication.
To provide an inclusive, outstanding education for children (4-11 years) who have complex moderate to severe learning difficulties, including autistic spectrum conditions.
Castlebar School would like to invite prospective parents and carers to visit us. We will show you around the school and answer any questions you may have. These sessions are usually on the last Wednesday of each month, please contact our school office for more information.

We are very proud of all the children at Castlebar and want all our children to achieve the best possible outcomes. The children at Castlebar make great progress, especially in the core areas of communication, independence and socialisation.
Castlebar school has specialist facilities designed to meet the needs of our pupils. In 2015 and 2018 extensive refurbishment works were carried out to extend the school, remodel classrooms and provide additional facilities…
We use Makaton throughout the school. It is a language development programme which uses speech, signs (simple hand movement) and symbols (simple line drawings) to encourage speech development and understanding.
